Episode 1x10 "Peace? Off!" Part II
Sep. 30th, 2007 07:17 pmWhen Guy reached Knighton Hall, he was almost buzzing with excitement and it took a great deal of restraint to keep from grinning as Marian greeted him. It would not do to spoil the surprise early and with a bit of persistence, managed to convince his bride-to-be to wear a blindfold to preserve it as much as possible. He was still buzzing as he guided her around the table and through the front door to where his gift stood.
If a small doubt that perhaps he had gotten entirely the wrong idea crossed his mind, Guy did not reveal it - despite there being no one to see if he did. Nevertheless, he studied Marian's face as he uncovered her eyes, but could not resist a small smile in anticipation.
Her loss for words and wide smile were worth all the trouble he had taken to obtain just the right horse. Even her attempt to reject it, as too great an expense, would do nothing to spoil his good mood. It seemed that the thought and effort put into choosing the perfect present magnified the pleasure of the giving. What did expense matter when he knew that this would make Marian happy? And besides, Guy could provide for her - this was only more evidence of that.
Still, there was some measure of resistance remaining, though he could see her wavering. One small nudge. A tiny nudge. A minuscule nudge would be all that was needed.
"Humour me. Just put him through his paces."
There may be things Guy does not know about Marian, but he did know that her heart could not resist the lure of riding a horse as beautiful as this. He also knew that he was glad to see her happy. Perhaps the situation between them was starting to look up?
