Control.
Over himself. Over his surroundings. Over his future.
Keeping his own weakness in check. At least, that which is perceived as weakness.
Guy craves power, but more what it can bring than for itself. There is a certain security in power. A safety and fearlessness that he lacked for a long time.
And when you only have yourself, then all you have is yourself to have power over. Mornings are spent training, practicing, keeping the physical self under control. Sleepless nights are given over to thinking, considering and keeping the mental self under control.
With the rest of the time given to restless sleep and the Sheriff's bidding, there is no time for the emotional self and so it must be held down. Regulated and stifled.
It's the routine, the awareness of where he stands in the scheme of all things and the knowing of what he is doing to get to where he wants to be that makes Guy feel powerful.
